New School Year!

"First Day of School" picture.

Welcome to the class blog!

I will post weekly/bi-monthly updates of what we're doing in the 2/3 classroom.

Week In Review...

As we finish the 3rd week of school we continued to build the community. Friendships are being formed as students begin to feel more comfortable with one another, students are learning the routines and expectations as we ease into our workshop.

Ere shares during a circle.

Straw Building Challenge and the Growth Mindset
We've been talking about having a growth mindset vs fixed mindset. As we think about what that means, looks and sounds like we've been also thinking about teamwork. As a team challenge, students were asked to build a structure using only straws and tape.

Building Community Through Choice
Choice time is a favorite time for students to work with other friends on various projects and choices. Students choose or propose activities they want to focus on and work on that at the end of each day.

Gifts for the New Year
As a class, we had a discussion about what gifts we have to share with one another. Some students thought about money and toys but as we dug deeper ideas began to emerge such as "Creativity", "Kindness" and "Friendship".  I asked students to write about these gifts and displayed the work on the classroom wall.
