Welcome to a New School Year

Welcome to a new school year!
I have really enjoyed getting to know the students these past two weeks.
The focus in our classroom has been building community. We have been learning names, playing games, creating self portraits and working on creating an inclusive classroom. I have been delighted to see the items that have been brought in for share. We have started touching on curriculum this week. If you have not sent your child to school with a family photo, that is OK. You can also email me one and I will have it printed.

Next week we will dig deeper into the curriculum. We will begin by learning formats for reading, writing and Math workshop.  I will be administering reading and math assessments. This will help me determine how to form small groups as we move forward in the coming weeks.

Looking Ahead

Back to School Afternoon Friday September 16th
2/3 will be hosting a back to school afternoon from: 1-2:30.
This is a chance to meet the other 2/3 teachers and learn more about our curriculum for the term, ask questions and meet other parents.

Field Trips
We have some very exciting field trips planned and will be needing volunteers/drivers/chaperones.
If you are interested in volunteering and have not completed the driver/chaperone form please do so. The first field trip we are planning will be towards the end of September. We will be going to the Tillamook forest to learn about the forest ecosystem. I will send details later in the week.

We will begin walking to the Library in October and will need volunteers who are able to walk.

Picture Day is September 22nd.
I will be sending home a packet that you can return or order online.

Class Potluck Celebration
Friday September 30th 11:00-12:00
All families, siblings, grandparents are invited to a class potluck to celebrate our community. Please bring a labeled dish, drink or snack to share.
Our class will have more of these events through out the year so there will be other opportunities to attend if you can't make this one.

Scholastic Book Orders
I will be sending home book orders. Please place your order online or return to school by September 28th.

I would love to know how your children are feeling when they come home! Are they excited? Are they feeling bored? Are they making new friends? Are there conflicts that they need help with? The more communication we have with one anotherthe more we can help the children have a great school year.

Warmly,
Fawn
